Polytantric and Exhibition captures a vibrant moment inside a North London squat in 1973, transformed into a creative hub by and for the community. Set at 60 and 60a Maldon Road in Kentish Town, the film opens with a narrator introducing a squatters’ exhibition, blending craft demonstrations, interviews, and spontaneous street life. We follow scenes of wool-spinning, placard-making, and costume jewelry displays, while artists and locals discuss the value of community media and collective expression. Jay, director of Creative Artists Liberated, explains the group’s mission to support marginalised talent, as the camera roams from playful children and makeshift studios to interviews with residents, culminating in a lively, music-backed montage of art, activism, and everyday life within a reclaimed space once owned by the gas board.
