Council Protest pt.2 1973
The second part of a black and white video of a council protest in 1973. As evening falls, press and protesters crowd into a small council office demanding housing for families evicted from Guilden Road. The officials argue with squatters over insufficient notice and unsuitable bed and breakfast placements, particularly for families with children. The councilman insists all evictees must leave and threatens police involvement as squatters plead for answers and housing solutions. A scuffle breaks out when security attempts to remove protesters, with calls of “no violence” and a pregnant woman demanding shelter. The confrontation ends with police arriving and the group deciding to leave peacefully, vowing to regroup at the Polytantric centre.
