Synopsis

Raw black-and-white handheld footage of the Covent Garden Street Fair in August 1978, filmed by Basement Project. The camera captures the celebrations along the streets, showing people of all ages. We see multiple performances: a street play, unicyclist bowl-pin juggler, female dancers wearing dirndls and holding hankies; a calypso steel pan performance; and finally, a jazz band performing on a stage to a large audience. At one point, the double bass player lies down on the ground, gingerly balancing the bottom of the instrument on his feet while strumming with his fingers. We also see a game where a group of young people pie each other with paper plates covered in nondescript sludge.
