Synopsis

A black-and-white video in three unrelated parts; a group of friends sat at home, jovial; a rehearsal of a school play about a pet dog; and a short clip about the Friday Debate around the future of the Southwark docks. The first part shows two women who look at the camera and jokily say, ‘Stick your finger up your bum’, and a man who holds a ‘spittoon’ and introduces the 19th-century game.

The second half of the film records the rehearsal of a school play about a young boy who wants to buy a dog with his pocket money, and is faced with parents who refuse. Other children perform as dogs on all-fours, and two children also play the parents.

The final two minutes of the film are unstable newsreel footage of a TV Debate about the future of the Southwark docks and its future development plans.
