John ‘Hoppy’ Hopkins interviews two men on a floor of a squatted home in this black-and-white video.
They speak about their organising tactics and how they gained support from squatting associations and locals. They occupy empty private homes by changing the locks. Although they’ve faced aggression from estate agents who hire men to chase them out, they have garnered support from locals who come around, who have their children spend time together. They made a leaflet which reads ‘Decent Homes for the Homeless’. They speak about their hope for future legislation for affordable housing, regulations on landlords and for the council to support squatters.
