Dead Proud is a collection of lively and irreverent sketches written and performed by young women from Second Wave, a South East London based arts project. The project aims to encourage new writing for the theatre from young black and white working-class women, and, with access to fully equipped theatre facilities, provides a forum for them to perform their plays. The scenes presented in the video are drawn from the writers own experience and offer down-to-earth, humorous look at series issues, including teenage pregnancy, leaving school and family relationships.

5:15

catching up on last year's fashion

5:18

boring my sister stiletto heels and

5:21

pencil skirt or my first bra elasticated

5:26

pink and pointed didn't feel shame to

5:29

take off my vest dinosaur in buff

5:31

changing rooms I followed my sister to

5:34

parties then blues inside hot and dark a

5:39

blazing coal fire ganja burning my eyes

5:44

my sister dance move her fella and me

5:47

stand-in there like a shadow-sm nothing

5:50

made sense then I fought that by

5:53

grown-up fireside find all the answers I

5:56

was naive I had a crush on my sister's

6:01

boyfriend friend he was nice-looking

6:04

reminded me of a black version of Clint

6:07

Eastwood

6:08

Cole he said that I looked 18 so I told

6:13

him that I was I couldn't talk about it

6:16

to anyone made love for the first time

6:20

at my sister Joy's party when everybody

6:22

had gone home Eddie left early before I

6:27

woke up I knew then that there'd been no

6:30

time to worry whether he loved me or not

6:35

didn't think you'd come

6:37

sorry to say I'll talk about this child

6:39

7:35

couldn't think straight I tried to

7:37

figure out the best way to tell mum I

7:40

fought about it over and over I signed

7:45

the papers

7:47

it hurts signing I needed to talk to

7:51

someone but there was no one who could

7:54

8:19

don't want no world guy yeah when we get

10:09

look for them now when I was really

10:20

little I wanted a toy Fran I wanted one

10:24

so badly I pestered me mum and dad to

10:27

give me one for Christmas they couldn't

10:30

afford it and told me not to be so

10:31

selfish but I couldn't stop I cried

10:34

because all the other girls in the

10:36

estate had won on Christmas Eve I went

10:38

to bed thinking I wasn't going to get

10:40

one but secretly hoping still I woke up

10:44

at 5 the next morning it was really dark

10:47

I couldn't see properly so I stuck out

10:51

my hand to feel for my presence I was

10:53

rummaging around when I touched

10:55

something like a metal bar I knew it

10:58

inside I knew it I switched on the light

11:01

and there it was a bright yellow pram

11:05

well it weren't exactly what I wanted

11:07
