Synopsis

A black-and-white handheld recording of the final E1 Festival community meeting held in 1974 in East London as part of the Basement Project. The E1 Festival was a community run event that took place throughout the 1970s on vacant land in the East End of London. Originally set up to raise money for the Junior Football League, the Festival in Stepney was a weekend long event of music, performing arts, stalls, and activities for people of all ages.

We see around 20 white men and women at the meeting. They discuss the timings, schedules, locations of various stalls, processions and football matches. The meeting also captures a heated moment of debate around the controversial design of the E1 Festival Certificate, which features some political content, with a controversial illustration of a rifle. The members decide that the poster should be redesigned as the festival is a community event, not a political campaign. The final section of the meeting concerns merch and T-shirt sales.
