Synopsis

A black-and-white video of a play with the Limehouse youth club as part of the Basement Project. We see two parts: first, a group of young boys playing around in a judo fight and in balancing games where they climb into a three-person vertical tower.

In the next section, in-camera editing cuts rhythmically bringing each person into the frame and out, into different compositions, all standing in a row. From one to 5 people. The camera then cuts to portraits of each individual. This is followed by a racially insensitive play. In a new scene, four white boys are seen sitting around a circle in a skit performance. One person leads the discussion group, to discuss racism. One young person says they ‘hate Pakistanis’, and spews racist vitriol. Another person gives a reason that they don’t like the community as they take social services away from ‘English’ boys. Finally, the presenter mentions he is the only person with a Pakistani friend. He gives a speech on how the minority populations are made scapegoats to the rest of the racist group, using the Jewish and the Irish as historic examples.
