Pout Issue Three
Pout Issue Three
Pout: Issue Three is the third and final iteration of a community-produced colour video magazine documenting lesbian and gay life in Britain through interviews, performance, satire, and documentary fragments. Produced by a collective of artists and activists from Outrage, the POUT tapes include direct-to-camera vignettes on sexuality, safe sex and relationships. Here, we see a narrator with a mohawk, sitting in an armchair surrounded by videotapes. They guide us through the multiple skits that follow: a camp, sexy performance in a supermarket with lard used as a suggestive lubricating prop; a musical about fisting; a raunchy performance of a kitsch(en) sink plumber; interventions on ads and a street-interview-style bingo in Soho, London. The video focuses on safe sex while gesturing towards the Act Up protests in London in the early 1990s and Section 28 which banned the promotion of homosexuality in schools in 1988.
