Synopsis

A black-and-white play filmed by the Basement Project about the automobile industry in the 1920s, which foregrounds a critique of the poor working conditions and the greedy corporate bosses. The play includes the narration of a timeline of the automobile factories and their ups and downs during the decade with skits playing out how workers were mistreated, as factories banned talking on the line, paying less than $5 per day. Then, we hear two songs – first by two rich men in satin suits who sing ‘You only have yourself to Blame’ and another song by the former automobile employer, who sings ‘Big Fish Eats Small Fish’ about the cutthroat nature of industrial capitalist production.
