Graham De Smidt

Graham was born in Capetown in South Africa, and grew up in Lebanon, the son of missionaries. He went to University in Cape Town, and afterwards became a refugee from Apartheid in the UK. In London he worked with homeless young people, and produced a number of programmes advocating for housing for young people. Notable among these was the two-part  ‘A Place of My Own’ made with young people in Lewisham, exploring the problems of homelessness and looking at some of the solutions. He went on to study photography at PCL (now the University of Westminster) and subsequently taught photography in Further Education, before becoming a teacher of vocational studies teachers. He is currently a volunteer worker with blind people.
