Synopsis

The colour video begins with a close-up on a police officer during the now famous February 6th 1992 Equality Now protest. Launched by the queer direct-action group OutRage!, this protest marked the beginning of a six-month campaign of non-violent direct action to challenge anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination in Britain. Throughout the campaign, thousands of activists took part in protests, blockades, and civil disobedience, resulting in scores of arrests and massive media attention.

We see glimpses of Derek Jarman being interviewed, before the camera zooms into various placards that read: ‘Legalise Queer Partnerships’, ‘Stop Breaking Up Lesbian Families’ , ‘Sweet 19 and Want to Love’, ‘Lesbian Citizens’.

Towards the end of the video, activist Peter Tatchell delivers a speech over a megaphone: “[This] is the Launch campaign of an ongoing campaign to demand the repeal of all homophobic laws and the enactment of legislation for full equality for the lesbian and gay citizens of this country. We are demanding that Parliament give us back the human rights it has taken from us.”
