Access Statement
At the London Community Video Archive we are committed to improving accessibility and opening up the archive to disabled attendees. We have recently enlisted an Access Coordinator and are liaising with disabled access experts across the creative industries to help us on our access journey.
At present, we commit to:
Ensuring all screenings and partner venues are wheelchair accessible
Creating a British Sign Language welcome video and explanation of the archive
Ensuring all volunteers have received access training and are familiar with current, preferred disability-related terminology.
Where budget and capacity allows captioning our collection which can be found here
Creating a relaxed environment in screenings where attendees feel able to move, stimm, or leave the auditorium freely
We are working on an approach to audio description where possible to cater to blind and partially sighted audiences
Continually seeking out funding opportunities to expand access further
Connecting with disability advocacy groups and organisations to form creative partnerships and better educate ourselves with regards to accessible curation and event production
Seeking feedback from disabled audiences as to how we can further improve
We know that we won’t get everything right all at once and, given the state of arts funding, won’t be able to provide everything we want to immediately. Working within a feminist, queer, ethics of care, we believe in kindly supporting each other to be better, so please do let us know how we can better cater to you, or if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve accessibility.
