Community Media
A collection of videos focused on community media, a movement which brought the means of representation back into the hands of the working class and local communities. This movement had global iterations with indigenous populations, local communities in urban cities around the world. In the spirit of transparency, and seizing the means of production, many videos show the mechanics of filming, producing and editing a community video project. This can be seen with participants calling "cut" or asking questions, interviewees being asked about their experience, and recorded demonstrations of how to use camera equipment. This movement was sometimes inherited by mainstream media, such as by BBC's Open Door or Channel Four.
Featured videos include Basement News (1975), Community Video (1980), How to Use a Portapak (1978), Open Door East End: Channel 1 (1973), Remote Control (1979), Tactical TV (1993) and Us & Crime (1974)
